Severe Weather Alert: Coastal Flooding Risks for Sindh-Makran Region

In light of an impending strong monsoon spell, the Met Office has issued a caution regarding potential coastal flooding along the Sindh-Makran coast. This adverse weather pattern is anticipated to commence from today.

Transitioning to safety measures, fishermen have been advised to refrain from venturing into the open sea between August 27 and August 30. This precaution is due to the expected severe weather conditions.

Furthermore, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued warnings about possible pluvial flooding and inundation in low-lying areas across Sindh, Baluchistan, and southern Punjab.

In response to these forecasts, Karachi’s municipal administration has declared a state of emergency and placed its staff on high alert. Consequently, all employees’ leaves have been canceled to ensure preparedness and effective response.

From August 26 to August 29, heavy rainfall is forecasted for Karachi and other districts within Sindh. This is attributed to a low-pressure system advancing from West Bengal, India, toward the eastern regions of Sindh.

According to the PMD, this robust weather system is expected to deliver significant rainfall. Additionally, other regions including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to experience rainfall, with some areas facing heavy downpours.
