A TikTok video made by Maria Gill, a female constable stationed at Gizri police station in Karachi, led to her suspension from service. This action was taken after the video gained significant attention on social media, prompting DIG South Syed Asad Raza to intervene.
DIG South stated that the police force is a professional institution, and such behavior is not acceptable within the ranks. As a result, Maria Gill faced suspension. However, she has urged the authorities to reconsider the decision and seek justice on her behalf.
Previously, in June, concerns were raised by the then AIG Karachi regarding the growing trend of police officials, including female constables, creating TikTok videos while in uniform. Former Karachi police chief Imran Yaqoob Minhas had also stressed that the uniform is meant for official duties, not personal publicity. He deemed it inappropriate for officers to engage in such activities during duty hours.
