NADRA recently issued a much-needed clarification about Birth and Death Certificate Rules and marriage registrations. This aims to ease public concerns and help people better understand the process.
Local Management by Union Councils
According to NADRA, Union Councils handle birth and death registrations and marital status updates while following provincial regulations.
NADRA uses these records to issue identity documents and ensures everything follows the rules set by federal law.
NADRA issued this clarification after a video spread on social media. The video showed someone who was shocked to discover that NADRA had mistakenly marked them as dead.
It was revealed that a close family member officially registered the individual’s death at the Union Council assigned to the area, as NADRA confirmed.
Over 7 Million Death Records Registered
NADRA stated that Union Councils handle the registration of key life events. These include births, deaths, and changes in marital status. All processes follow the Birth and Death Certificate Rules. Once records are processed, NADRA issues the identity documents.
NADRA shared Union Councils have registered over 7 million death records. However, many family members still haven’t notified NADRA or canceled the identity cards of the deceased.
Action Required for Correcting Mistakes
NADRA stated that it sent text messages to the individual and their relatives. They were asked to visit the nearest NADRA office to cancel the identity card of the deceased, once the death record was verified.
If anyone finds an error in the Birth and Death Certificate Rules regarding death registration, then the family should, therefore, reach out to the relevant Union Council to correct it.
This will help keep all information accurate and up-to-date.
