PM Approves Integrated Energy Policy Pakistan, Minister Informs NA Body

In a recent statement, Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, the Minister for Power Division in ISLAMABAD. Revealed that the government has officially ratified the Integrated Energy Policy Pakistan.

During his discussion with the National Assembly Standing Committee on Power. The minister highlighted that NEPRA will take charge of reviewing the Integrated Energy Policy Pakistan. Following the set guidelines, the policy will then undergo the necessary processing for final approval.

The minister added that once the policy is finalized. The Power Division will be responsible for guiding its implementation over the next decade, ensuring that the country’s electricity production moves in the right direction.

PM Briefed and Policy Cleared

He shared that on May 1. The Power Division gave a full and clear presentation to the Prime Minister about the new energy policy. The briefing covered all the key points and goals of the plan. After going through the details, the Prime Minister gave his approval, allowing the policy to move ahead for the next steps.

He clarified that the updated  Integrated Energy Policy Pakistan will clearly define the rules and steps for electricity production. This will equip the Power Division with everything needed to submit a full draft to the regulator for the next stage of approval.

Transparent Plan, Long-Term Impact

He emphasized that the Integrated Energy Policy Pakistan will undergo a thorough review and approval process, ensuring full transparency. The existing 10-year power generation plan clearly defines the energy sources—solar, wind, hydro, or nuclea. Their costs, and the technologies that will be put into action.

The choices made during this planning stage will have a direct impact on electricity prices. In previous years, although the Council of Common Interests (CCI) advised using a least-cost approach for buying power. People often made purchases inconsistently and individually. This resulted in higher costs and inefficiencies.

New Power Deals to Save Billions

The minister said that under the new Integrated Energy Policy, Pakistan will buy around 7,000 megawatts of electricity through a fair and simple process. This new method will help make electricity deals more transparent and cost-efficient. With this change. The government expects to save about Rs.1,953 billion in electricity costs over time.
