On Tuesday, the Lahore High Court rejected eight bail requests made by PTI founder Imran Khan. These bail pleas were linked to the violent protests that happened on May 9, after which several cases were registered against him. The Lahore High Court announced its decision through a two-judge bench led by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi. After the anti-terrorism court refused to grant bail, Imran Khan’s lawyer approached the Lahore High Court for relief in eight different cases. He explained that Khan was already in police custody on May 9, the same day the incidents took place. According to the prosecutor, the May 9 unrest led to damages totaling around Rs40 million to police gear. He further stated that the assault on the Lahore Corps Commander’s home, commonly known as Jinnah House, caused financial losses exceeding Rs520 million.

The court sentenced 11 individuals, including PTI Member of the National Assembly Abdul Latif, to a total of 15 years and 4 months in prison. These punishments were given after the court found them guilty of their involvement in attacks on sensitive government and military properties. In addition to the prison terms, the court also ordered them to pay financial penalties, further adding to the severity of the sentence.
On March 18, 2023, Imran Khan reached the Judicial Complex with a large group of PTI supporters. Things soon got out of hand as the crowd broke the security barriers, went inside by force, damaged the building, and stopped the court from working which later became the reason for this case.
