China Telecom Launches AI-Powered Network Diagnostics Test

A big step forward has been made in the digital development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. China Telecom’s research teams in Guangdong, along with their main institute, have successfully completed the first live AI-Powered Network Diagnostics Test of a new optical-electrical combined network, showing important progress in data center network technology.

This achievement marks an important change, moving China’s data center networks from just followers to leaders. The new data center is built to handle future needs, supporting groups of over 10,000 processors for combined training and analysis tasks. Its strong network system provides wide computing power throughout the province, playing a key role in bringing together computing and networking smoothly for the modern era. In support of this, AI-Powered Network Diagnostics is now integrated to monitor and optimize these high-volume processes in real-time.

Smarter Optical-Electrical Integration

The design of data center networks has been smartly improved. Instead of using the old way of stacking electrical switches, a new approach combines both optical and electrical technologies. This new system includes all-optical switches, a shared control platform, and clever communication methods that adjust the network setup quickly based on different tasks, such as training or analysis. Tests have shown that this design offers four important benefits. Using AI-Powered Network Diagnostics, these adjustments can now be made faster and with better insight, ensuring the right resources are always in place.

After switching to the new optical-electrical hybrid network, the communication delay between Ascend cards has been reduced by 14%, making services that require fast responses work much better.

The use of all-optical switching also cuts down the number of optical modules by 17%, which means less spending on hardware. Additionally, the new all-optical switches make it easy to upgrade and support different generations of cards without any problems. On top of that, the whole data center network now uses 19% less power, helping save energy and reduce carbon emissions. With AI-Powered Network Diagnostics, these energy savings are tracked and enhanced further through intelligent power use analysis.

AI-Powered Network Diagnostics in Future Networks

At the center of this system is the Guangzhou South Base data center, supported by a metro network with only a 1-millisecond delay.

This allows users to experience extremely fast computing and almost instant responses. The network removes limits caused by distance and different systems, efficiently distributes computing power, and creates a broad and open platform. It also offers customized solutions for 12 key industries.

Looking ahead, China Telecom plans to step up efforts to improve productivity in this new era of smart technology.
