PEC Plans to Train 45,000 Engineers as AI Professionals in 3 Years

A special ceremony was organized at the PEC Headquarters in Islamabad to celebrate the completion of the second batch of the Generative  AI Professionals course by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). During his address, Chairman Engr.

Waseem Nazir announced an ambitious plan to train 45,000 engineers in artificial intelligence over the next three years. This step is designed to prepare engineers for future technologies and strengthen Pakistan’s role in the global digital economy, paving the way for a smarter and more innovative engineering Branch

Connecting online, engineers from various parts of Pakistan came together to be part of the closing ceremony. In his remarks, Chairman Engr. Waseem Nazir underlined PEC’s focus on building AI expertise within the engineering community. This milestone highlights PEC’s vision of creating a strong base of AI Professionals for the future.

He stated this will open new doors of innovation and progress in Pakistan’s engineering sector. He also highlighted that such initiatives are vital to keeping pace with global technological advancements. The training program aims to prepare engineers for future challenges and create opportunities in emerging industries. PEC plans to continue expanding these efforts to ensure engineers are ready for a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

More than 4,000 engineers took part in the six-week online course offered free of cost. From these, 1,180 completed all the requirements and were awarded certificates. The event further recognized the top 10 performers and three outstanding teams for their creative projects and excellent technical contributions. These achievements demonstrate PEC’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of AI Professionals.

This initiative reflects PEC’s commitment to promoting innovation and technical growth among engineers. It also aims to inspire participants to apply their newly learned AI skills in real-world challenges. Such programs are seen as a step forward in strengthening Pakistan’s engineering workforce for the digital age. The ultimate goal is to position Pakistan among leading countries producing highly skilled AI Professionals.

Building a Team of AI Professionals Ready for the Future

In partnership with Pak Angels Silicon Valley USA, Aspire Pakistan, and iCodeGuru, the program was created to benefit registered engineers, team leaders, university staff, students, and industry partners. It provided participants with an international certificate featuring a QR code for easy verification and covered key areas of Generative AI to build future-ready skills.

The course included interactive sessions, practical assignments, and real-world case studies to give hands-on experience. It also aimed to encourage innovation and critical thinking among participants. This initiative reflects PEC’s vision to equip Pakistan’s engineering community with advanced knowledge for the digital era. With such training, Pakistan’s workforce is steadily transforming into competent AI Professionals.

According to Hassan Syed, Chairperson of Aspire Pakistan, and M. Anwar Khan, Founder of Pak Angels, Pakistan must focus on turning training into real business opportunities.

They explained that aligning new technologies with market demand will create lasting results. This strategy can boost economic progress and bring in investments from both Pakistan and abroad. They also highlighted the importance of building a strong ecosystem to support startups and tech entrepreneurs. Such efforts, they believe, will position Pakistan as a competitive player in the global technology landscape.

Senior leadership from PEC, including Chairman Engr. Waseem Nazir, gathered at the ceremony along with Registrar Engr. Khadim Hussain Bhatti and Technical Advisor (Regulations) Engr. Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed. Muhammad Imran Yousaf Qureshi, Advisor to the Chairman on CPD and lead for the AI course, and Additional Registrar Engr.

Muhammad Sohail Khan were also in attendance, joined by other key PEC officials. International partners like Hassan Syed (Aspire Pakistan Chairperson), Dr. Zafar Shahid (President of iCodeGuru), and M. Anwar Khan (Founder of Pak Angels) connected virtually to mark the occasion. Their combined efforts are paving the way for Pakistan to become a hub of AI Professionals.
