Cloudy Weather and Light Rain Expected to Continue in Karachi

According to Sardar Sarfaraz, the chief meteorologist at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Karachi is likely to experience cloudy skies with occasional drizzle and light rain over the next 24 hours.

Sarfaraz explained that the low-pressure system responsible for the recent rain has now moved out of Sindh. As a result, Karachi will see mostly cloudy conditions with chances of light rain and drizzle.

Looking ahead, Sarfaraz mentioned that another monsoon system might influence the lower Sindh region, including Karachi, around August 26 or 27.

For the upper Sindh region, Sarfaraz predicted the possibility of rain on August 21.

Today, Karachi’s temperatures are expected to range between 28°C at the minimum and 30°C to 32°C at the maximum, as per the PMD. The Met Office also reported that the humidity level is at 81%, with southwest winds blowing at 17 kilometers per hour.

Addressing recent rumors of record-breaking rainfall in Sukkur, Sarfaraz dismissed the claims of 300 millimeters of rain as incorrect. He clarified that Sukkur recorded 116mm of rainfall over 48 hours, while nearby Rohri saw 134mm.

Just a day earlier, heavy rains had lashed Sukkur, with some sources falsely suggesting that the city had experienced a 77-year record-breaking downpour. However, official figures show that Sukkur received 290mm of rain in a single day, compared to 374mm over 12 days during the 2022 monsoon season.
