In Sindh, a significant rise in dengue cases has been observed this year. Compared to 2023, an increase of about 135% has been recorded over the past seven months.
According to a report released on Friday by the Sindh Health Department, 1,167 dengue fever cases have been reported in Sindh thus far. Out of these, 1,022 cases were detected in Karachi alone.
To put this in perspective, during the first seven months of 2024, 1,034 dengue cases were reported across Sindh. In contrast, only 440 cases were reported during the same period last year.
Furthermore, the health department detailed that Hyderabad reported 83 cases, Mirpurkhas 34 cases, and Sukkur 12 cases this year. Additionally, eight cases were recorded in both Larkana and Shaheed Benazirabad.
In Karachi, the situation is particularly severe. District East reported the highest number of cases with 329, followed by District Central with 241, District South with 197, and District Korangi with 86 cases. Moreover, Keamari saw 66 cases, District West 60 cases, and District Malir 43 cases. Tragically, one life has been claimed by this vector-borne disease in Karachi this year. As a result, ongoing efforts are being made to address and manage the outbreak effectively.
