Expect Heavy Rainfall in Karachi This Afternoon: PMD Forecast

Under a new monsoon system, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Karachi today, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). This system, currently located 290 kilometers from the city, has led to forecasts of significant rain between 2pm and 8pm.

Earlier in the day, Karachi experienced a minimum temperature of 26°C, with high humidity levels at 90%. However, temperatures are predicted to climb to 30°C as the day progresses.

Warnings of urban flooding in Karachi have been issued by PMD Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz. Additionally, the PMD noted that wind thunderstorms are likely, with scattered heavy to isolated very heavy rainfall expected across the city.

In response to the expected heavy rainfall, there are concerns about potential urban flooding and rain inundation in Karachi and other major cities across Sindh. To address the situation, the Sindh government has set up a Rain Emergency Cell at the Chief Minister’s office, which will monitor the rain-related developments in Karachi and other regions of the province.

In light of the forecasted heavy downpours, all Divisional Commissioners have been directed by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to maintain a high level of vigilance throughout the week. These instructions are part of the government’s broader efforts to manage the anticipated severe weather conditions.
