Google Ads AI-Powered Theft Protection to Android Phones

In response to rising global crime rates, particularly the theft of mobile phones, Android users are set to benefit from a significant enhancement in security. Consequently, Google is preparing to roll out an innovative anti-theft feature with the upcoming Android 15 update, which, in turn, promises to leverage artificial intelligence for increased protection.

The new tool, named Theft Detection Lock, integrates AI with the phone’s gyroscope and accelerometer to detect suspicious movements indicative of theft. When the system detects unusual motion patterns—such as a sudden jolt or rapid acceleration—the device’s screen will automatically lock to prevent unauthorized access.

ZDNET reported that the advanced feature is currently being introduced to a limited group of beta testers in Brazil. Following this initial rollout, it is expected that the feature will be made available on all Android devices running version 10 and above, including most modern Android phones.

In addition to Theft Detection Lock, Google has unveiled several other security enhancements earlier this year. These include:

.  Increased difficulty in performing a factory reset and setting up the device under a new account.

.  Private spaces for concealing sensitive apps.

. A feature to mark the phone as lost in Find My Device for improved tracking.

. Automatic locking after multiple failed authentication attempts.

. The ability to lock the phone even if it’s offline.

. Remote locking capabilities using just the phone number and a quick security challenge.

These measures are part of Google’s broader effort to safeguard user data before, during, and after a theft.
