Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged officials to speed up the finalisation of the EV Policy 2025 Pakistan. He pointed out the importance of listening to all key stakeholders to shape a balanced and practical plan. He also asked that the policy be sent to the federal cabinet for approval as soon as it’s complete.
On Saturday, the Prime Minister held a high-level meeting where he asked officials to focus on expanding the electric vehicle industry and promoting its use throughout Pakistan.
EV Policy 2025 Pakistan
In the meeting, an in-depth review of the EV Policy 2025 Pakistan took place. The Prime Minister highlighted the urgency of implementing fast and prioritized actions to encourage the widespread adoption of electric motorcycles, scooters, three-wheelers, cars, and buses throughout Pakistan.
The Prime Minister made it clear that setting up dependable charging points and places to exchange batteries is very important to keep up with the growing number of electric vehicles on our roads.
PM Shehbaz stressed the value of backing local businesses with the right resources and guidance. This will enable them to step up production of electric two- and three-wheelers domestically, supporting the economy, providing employment, and lessening the country’s dependence on imports.
Federal Ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain, Ahmad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar were present at the meeting. Alongside them, many other senior government officials joined to take part in the discussions and share their insights.
Tariff Reduction and NEPRA’s Role
The federal government’s request to fix the basic charge for electric vehicle charging stations at Rs 23.57 per unit has been approved. This set price will help keep charging costs reasonable and encourage more people to use electric vehicles throughout Pakistan under the EV Policy 2025 Pakistan.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a decision by the federal government to reduce the basic charge for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by Rs 21.98 per unit. This means that the cost for charging electric vehicles will be significantly lowered.
The aim behind this move is to make it more affordable for people to use electric vehicles. By lowering charging costs, the government hopes to encourage more individuals to choose electric cars, bikes, and other vehicles over traditional fuel-powered ones.
This shift will support cleaner and greener transportation, helping reduce pollution and promote environmental sustainability across the country in line with the EV Policy 2025 Pakistan.
After the new decision, the price to charge electric vehicles went down from Rs 45.55 to Rs 23.57 per unit. Also, the previous limit of Rs 24.44 on extra charges at charging stations has been removed.
NEPRA responded to the government’s request by deciding that the margin should be decided by market forces.
