Ali Khursheedi, the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly, said on Monday that several powerful groups have secretly joined forces to take control of Karachi, warning that the city is no longer being managed in a fair and proper way. He referred to these groups as Karachi mafias, highlighting how their hidden control is damaging the city’s future.
During the budget talk for Sindh’s 2025–26 financial year, MQM leader Ali Khursheedi shared his concern about Karachi’s current state. He said the city is not being managed properly. According to him, the condition of Karachi has gone from bad to worse. He compared it to a poor copy of Mexico City. Khursheedi described it as something cheap and unplanned. He blamed weak leadership and poor planning for this decline, again suggesting that Karachi mafias are playing a major role in this mismanagement.
Ali Khursheedi said that the top leadership of the PPP fully supports Karachi’s mayor. He reminded everyone that Murtaza Wahab had previously been in charge of the city. Khursheedi questioned what improvements were made during that time. He pointed out that despite this leadership, the city is still suffering. Karachi has now been ranked among the most difficult places to live. He asked who should be held responsible for the city’s worsening condition, possibly these Karachi mafias that operate behind the scenes.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah told the assembly that Sindh is using nearly one-third of its total budget for development and improvement projects. He explained that this money will go toward building roads, schools, and other important public needs to make life better for the people.
In comparison, he said, Punjab is spending only 23% of its budget on development, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is using about 25.3%. Shah added that Sindh is planning its budget carefully and wants to invest in the future in a better way.
He made it clear that this is more than just about numbers — it’s about real progress. Unlike other provinces, Sindh is taking stronger steps forward. He said the aim is to bring visible change that benefits everyone. With hope and effort, Sindh wants to move ahead and improve daily life for its people.
