The Smart ID card, issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), plays an essential role for Pakistani citizens. It serves as a biometric identification tool, streamlining access to various services in banking, telecom, and government sectors. Moreover, this card aids in managing subsidies, preventing fraud, and fostering financial inclusion by enabling individuals to open bank accounts and manage taxes.
In order to maintain uninterrupted access to these services, it is mandatory for citizens to renew their Smart ID cards either before or shortly after the expiry date. NADRA oversees the issuance and renewal of these cards, which are also necessary for critical activities such as securing employment, making investments, purchasing property, and opening bank accounts.
Additionally, the updated fee structure for the Smart ID card, effective from September 2024, is as follows:
- Normal: Rs750 for a 10-year validity period
- Urgent: Rs1,500 for a 10-year validity period
- Executive: Rs2,500 for a 10-year validity period
While the processing times for each category begin once the application has been approved, delivery charges are separate and not included in these fees. Thus, timely renewal and application submission are highly recommended for avoiding any disruption in services.
