To protect children from the threat of polio, Pakistan has started its third polio vaccination 2025 campaign of the year. This nationwide effort, part of the Polio Eradication Programme. Will reach out to millions of children through the latest round of National Immunisation Days (NIDs). Each dose brings the country closer to its goal of a safer, polio-free future.
Official Launch of the Campaign
The third polio vaccination 2025 campaign was officially launched at the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) in Islamabad. Health workers and officials came together at the event to show their commitment to protecting children from polio.
The launch was headed by Ayesha Raza Farooq, the Prime Minister’s key representative for polio eradication. Alongside her, top officials and partner groups gathered, united by their shared goal to wipe out polio from Pakistan.
By giving oral polio drops and Vitamin A to children herself, Ms. Farooq sent a powerful message of the government’s dedication to wiping out polio from all parts of the country.
Starting on May 26, this crucial week-long third polio vaccination 2025 campaign will vaccinate more than 45 million children under the age of five. It marks an important step in Pakistan’s determined effort to completely eliminate polio by the end of 2025.
Why Polio Vaccination Matters
Getting rid of polio isn’t only about health it’s a mission that involves every part of our country,” Ms. Farooq shared. “This third polio vaccination 2025 campaign is a vital step in our 2-4-6 strategy. The vaccination drives from September 2024 through May 2025 are carefully timed to close immunity gaps and prevent the virus from spreading before the high-risk season starts.
Although difficulties still exist in areas like Karachi, South KP, and Quetta, Ms. Farooq brought encouraging news about reaching communities that had been missed before.
Ms. Farooq expressed sincere thanks to the 400,000 frontline workers who make this campaign possible, with special appreciation for the 225,000 women vaccinators. She also recognized the crucial help of civil and military forces in keeping vaccinators safe as they reach children nationwide.
Current Polio Situation in Pakistan
Despite important progress, the threat of wild poliovirus is still present. In 2025, Pakistan has confirmed 10 cases of polio. Additionally, tests of sewage water in 68 districts detected the virus in 272 samples, showing that polio is still spreading in some areas.
At the launch event, Abdullah Fadil, UNICEF’s representative in Pakistan, shared his admiration for the program’s clear focus. As he gets ready to finish his work in the country, he praised the strong dedication of Pakistan’s leaders and Ms. Farooq in the fight against polio.
