The minister highlighted that more women are now gaining access to mobile phones and the internet. To support this progress, 200 smartphones will be given to female SIM users. Along with this, all telecom users will receive 2GB of free data and 200 on-net minutes, both valid for 24 hours. This initiative, part of the PTA Free Internet Offer, is designed to reduce the digital gap between men and women and help more women take part in the growing digital economy.
The minister shared that free Wi-Fi hotspots will soon be installed in selected universities for a period of six months. This step is meant to help students by giving them smooth and reliable internet access for their studies and research work. She also mentioned that in the past, the PML-N government had given 1.2 million laptops to hardworking students based on merit. At the event, new data showed that 150 million people in Pakistan now use broadband, and two million are connected through fiber optic internet.
