The recent internet outage in Pakistan has been attributed to a fault in one of the country’s submarine fiber optic cables, as discovered by the PTA. According to PTA Chairman Hafiz Rahman, this damage is the primary reason for the disruption.
Pakistan’s internet infrastructure depends on seven submarine cables, with one having suffered damage. The requisite repairs are projected to be finalized by August 27.
Assurances have been given by Rahman that this problem is confined to Pakistan’s cable infrastructure and does not indicate a global issue. He further elaborated that the fault is localized and will be rectified once the cable is repaired.
Previously, there were various speculations regarding the outage. Shaza Fatima, the Minister of State for IT, had proposed that the extensive use of VPNs could be responsible. Nevertheless, The PTA Chairman has unequivocally established that the true origin of the outage is the compromised submarine cable.
This disruption has precipitated substantial inconvenience for users throughout Pakistan, severely impacting online activities. The PTA is actively engaged in rectifying the issue with urgency, and it is anticipated that normal internet services will be reinstated upon the completion of the repairs.
