PTI Faces Power Struggle in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Top Leaders removed

There has been a significant reshuffle within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ranks of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Notably, two key leaders, Atif Khan and Sher Ali Arbab, have been removed from their positions, signaling a shift in the party’s provincial leadership.

The decision to remove these leaders was taken by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur on Tuesday. It is believed that Atif Khan was dismissed due to his public support for the recently ousted Minister Shakil Khan. Meanwhile, Sher Ali Arbab’s refusal to sign a declaration expressing confidence in the chief minister was cited as the reason for his removal, as reported by sources.

Following these dismissals, new appointments have been made to fill the vacant positions. Arbab Asim has been named the new President of the PTI Peshawar Region, while Irfan Saleem has been appointed as the President of District Peshawar. Moreover, Shahab Advocate has taken on the role of General Secretary of District Peshawar.

These changes reflect an ongoing reorganization within PTI’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, aimed at consolidating the party’s leadership in the region.

Leadership Changes in PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Follow Minister’s Resignation Over Corruption

The announcement of the recent changes in leadership within PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was made by the party’s General Secretary, Ali Asghar Khan. The decision was made with the provincial president’s approval, solidifying the shift in the party’s regional structure.

Before these changes were implemented, a significant event took place on August 16, when Shakeel Ahmed Khan, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Works and Communications, tendered his resignation. Citing corruption within the provincial government as the reason, Khan, who is also a PTI MPA, expressed his frustration with the current administration.

In his resignation letter submitted to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Shakeel Ahmed Khan stated that he could no longer tolerate the corruption and was left with no choice but to resign. The minister had indicated his intention to disclose further details regarding his resignation during the next KP Assembly session.

Furthermore, Shakeel Ahmed Khan had previously accused the chief minister of interfering in his ministry. According to him, this interference, coupled with widespread corruption and mismanagement, had severely impacted his ability to perform his duties effectively.
