Punjab Wheat Subsidy, Government to Help 600,000 Farmers

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has made a big move to support farmers by approving a Punjab Wheat Subsidy of 5,000 rupees per acre. This will benefit 600,000 farmers through the ‘Kissan Card’ program, helping to improve agriculture in the region.

Support for All Farmers

Even farmers not yet registered under the Kissan Card program can now enjoy the same per-acre subsidy. Ensuring they too benefit from this important support. This additional aid comes under the Punjab Wheat Subsidy scheme, which aims to ensure fair agricultural practices.

In a special meeting, the Chief Minister shared plans to allocate billions of rupees in additional subsidies for the next crop season, ensuring farmers get the support they need. The government’s Punjab Wheat Subsidy initiative aims to reduce farmers’ financial burdens and boost agricultural productivity.

She reaffirmed the government’s strong dedication to empowering farmers and modernizing the agriculture sector for long-term growth. According to her, a series of strategic measures are being rolled out from boosting crop productivity and integrating advanced farming technologies to encouraging smart water management.

In addition, the government is extending financial relief through targeted subsidies and easier access to low-interest agricultural loans. These steps are aimed at solving the core issues faced by farmers and laying the foundation for a more resilient and thriving agricultural economy.

Kissan Card Usage

The meeting highlighted that farmers have used 36 billion rupees from the Kissan Card to buy essential farming resources.

During her review, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted the progress of solarizing agricultural tube wells. Emphasizing her government’s commitment to modernizing Punjab’s farming while benefiting both farmers and the environment.

Khalid Hussain Bath, the head of Kisan Ittehad, recently warned that if the government doesn’t set a fair price for wheat, farmers will have no choice but to hold a hunger strike in Islamabad.

Price of Wheat

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Khalid Hussain Bath pointed out that. Following Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s recent decision. The price of wheat has decreased by Rs 400 for each 40 kg.

He shared his concerns, saying, ‘We’ve been told that a third party, not the government, will buy the wheat. But how can Punjab’s farmers understand a system like Europe’s?’ He added, ‘Many farmers don’t even know how to use storage systems properly.’

He appealed to the Chief Minister of Punjab, urging her to stop making decisions solely based on bureaucrats’ advice. ‘You must listen to the farmers and show them some understanding,’ he said. ‘This new storage system will only lead to more corruption.’
