Sindh Takes Action: Absent School Teachers Set to be Fired

The Sindh education department has initiated a significant action to address the issue of ghost teachers in Karachi’s government schools. The decision to terminate teachers who have been absconding is expected to enhance the quality of education and prevent salaries from being paid to individuals not present at their posts.

To begin with, the District and Taluka Education Officers have been instructed to compile and submit a final list of these absent teachers within the next two days. This measure aims to ensure accountability and transparency in the educational system.

Despite numerous warnings, the absconding teachers have not made any effort to reach out to the relevant authorities. This lack of response has led to the decision to take strict action.

Additionally, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had earlier shared information with the Education Department regarding teachers who were residing abroad. Some of these teachers have continued to receive their salaries for years without fulfilling their duties, while others have used fraudulent medical certificates to justify their absences.

The identification of these absconding employees was achieved through a collaborative effort between the Education Department’s monitoring cell and the FIA. This joint investigation has played a crucial role in uncovering and addressing the issue of ghost teachers.

Recent Actions Against Ghost Teachers in Sindh

In recent developments, the Sindh education department has dismissed eight ghost teachers from their positions. These teachers, who were residing abroad, had been receiving salaries for the past two years despite not performing their duties.

According to Akbar Leghari, the decision was made after it was discovered that these teachers were absent from their posts and still drawing a salary. The action reflects the department’s commitment to tackling the issue of ghost teachers.

Furthermore, the secretary of the department indicated that Taluka education officers across the province are actively identifying and reporting such cases. This effort is part of a broader initiative to address and rectify absenteeism within the education system.

The secretary has also issued a stern warning, stating that strict measures will be taken against any further instances of ghost teachers. This approach underscores the department’s determination to enforce accountability and improve educational standards.
