In a major initiative, Pakistan Railways has reintroduced the Sir Syed Express through a new public-private partnership model. On Sunday, the 16-coach train resumed its journey, departing from Karachi towards Rawalpindi, with key stops including Faisalabad.
The Sir Syed Express has been designed to cater to the diverse needs of passengers. It offers various classes, including one AC sleeper coach, three AC business class coaches, one AC standard coach, a dining car, and eight economy class coaches. To enhance passenger comfort, Pakistan Railways has implemented special measures to ensure a continuous water supply and maintain cleanliness on board. Additionally, free Wi-Fi is available throughout the journey, allowing passengers to stay connected during their travels.
Booking tickets for the Sir Syed Express is now easier than ever, thanks to the introduction of mobile apps. Passengers can book their trips conveniently from home, making the process more efficient and user-friendly.
Amir Baloch, CEO of Pakistan Railways, expressed optimism about this new venture. He estimated that the Sir Syed Express would generate approximately Rs 3 billion in annual revenue. Baloch emphasized that this public-private partnership model is key to achieving financial self-sufficiency and boosting revenue for Pakistan Railways.
Looking ahead, Pakistan Railways has already set plans to introduce ten additional trains under similar public-private partnerships next month. This expansion is expected to strengthen the country’s rail network, improve services, and provide more reliable travel options to passengers across Pakistan.
With this initiative, Pakistan Railways is taking a significant step towards modernizing its services and improving the travel experience for its passengers, while also driving financial growth for the organization.
