Spotify India Takes Down Pakistani Songs, Real Reason Will Shock You

As per recent instructions, all digital streaming platforms, including Spotify India, have been asked to take down any shows or material linked to Pakistan. This move is to be followed without delay, and no Pakistani content should be available on these services anymore.

Recently, Spotify in India removed a large number of Pakistani songs from its collection. This unexpected change has left fans feeling disappointed and concerned about losing access to their favorite music Spotify India.

Music lovers faced a sudden change on Wednesday night when the streaming service removed many popular Pakistani songs like “Maand,” “Jhol,” and “Faasle.” Fans on the other side of the border then began searching for the songs they once enjoyed.

According to NDTV, after the Indian government’s announcement on May 8, officials instructed all online streaming platforms and digital services to immediately remove Pakistani content from their offerings, including on Spotify India.

What New Guidelines Mean for Music and Movie Apps

In a recent directive, Indian authorities have ordered all streaming platforms and digital services to stop offering any content from Pakistan without delay. This includes web series, movies, songs, podcasts, and other media, whether paid or free.

Following concerns about the country’s safety after ‘Operation Sindoor’ and the recent attack in Pahalgam, the advisory uses rules from 2021 that set guidelines for online services and digital media conduct.

To comply with new government instructions, the Indian government has directed all streaming services to immediately take down any Pakistani content, including web series, movies, music, and podcasts, regardless of how they offer it.

Music platforms across India are undergoing major updates due to new rules. Spotify and YouTube Music have both removed certain content, and promotional materials for Hindi films no longer include Pakistani actors Spotify India.

Music platforms showed more noticeable changes this week. Spotify and YouTube Music edited the album cover of Sanam Teri Kasam. They quietly removed the image of Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane as part of the update.

Film promotion visuals have continued to change across platforms. For the movie Raees, designers redesigned the poster to remove Pakistani actress Mahira Khan. They kept only the Indian lead in the spotlight, including on Spotify India.

Restrictions are now affecting well-known songs too. For instance, YouTube has taken down Buddhu Sa Mann from Kapoor and Sons. The film features Pakistani actor Fawad Khan alongside Indian actors. Viewers can no longer access the song.

Users trying to watch the song now see a message stating that the video isn’t available in their region. Sony Music India originally uploaded the song. Several music apps have also altered the song’s cover to remove the photo of the original actor featured.

Deepak Mukut, the producer of Sanam Teri Kasam, spoke to the Hindustan Times about the issue. He said no one informed him before the changes. According to him, the decision was entirely theirs. In the end, he added, people have to go along with what the government decides, Spotify India included.
