Starting July 1, BRT Peshawar fares will go higher

BRT Peshawar Fares Will Go Up Starting July 1

Starting from July 1, people in Peshawar will have to pay more to travel on BRT buses, as TransPeshawar has decided to raise the fares. This change will affect all passengers using the service. The new fare rates will come into effect at the beginning of next month. Commuters are now advised to prepare for the updated pricing. This fare increase marks a new phase for BRT Peshawar.

TransPeshawar has announced changes in the BRT fare system. The new notice says that Rs10 will be added to the fare for each stop. Now, if someone travels 5 kilometers, they will have to pay Rs30 instead of the old fare of Rs20. This increase will affect daily commuters across the city. The updated fares will begin from July 1. Daily passengers are expected to feel the impact of these changes in BRT Peshawar.

In a recent update for commuters, TransPeshawar has announced changes in the BRT fare system. The new notice says that Rs10 will be added to the fare for each stop. Now, if someone travels 5 kilometers, they will have to pay Rs30 instead of the old fare of Rs20. Passengers who travel up to 40 kilometers will now be charged Rs70.

Also, the price for a single ride ticket will go up from Rs60 to Rs70. These fare changes are part of the new update and will officially take effect from July 1. Passengers are advised to plan their travel accordingly as the new fares come into effect. The revised ticket prices will affect long-distance users of BRT Peshawar.

The fare change was decided during a meeting of the Board of Governors, according to officials. During the session, members reviewed and approved the new fare rates. This decision was made to adjust the pricing system based on current requirements and operational needs. Officials stated that the new pricing is crucial for sustaining BRT Peshawar.

Major progress was made in the BRT Peshawar project earlier this year. Back in early 2024, the National Accountability Bureau shared that it managed to bring back Rs168.5 billion connected to the BRT Peshawar project. This recovery was the biggest in the bureau’s history since it was formed 25 years ago. This milestone was seen as a strong step toward improving transparency in public sector projects.

BRT Peshawar: Transparency and Legal Problems

Back in 2018, a probe into the BRT project was started after concerns were raised about shady deals and possible misuse of project money.

Legal action around the BRT project reached international levels in recent years. During the legal battle, NAB refused to accept the contractors’ request for Rs31.5 billion and challenged it in the International Court of Arbitration. The move was seen as a firm stance against financial claims considered unjustified by the bureau.

It was discovered that six key deals were given to certain companies without following proper rules, and those companies later failed to keep their promises. Investigators also reviewed more than 400 bank accounts, which exposed even more signs of misuse and wrongdoing. These findings raised serious concerns about transparency in BRT Peshawar.
