The global community has shown serious concern over the growing conflict between India and Pakistan, who have had a long-standing rivalry. The situation became more intense on Wednesday when India launched missile and air strikes inside Pakistan. Since then, both countries have been involved in daily clashes, and by Saturday, military bases were targeted, resulting in the loss of many lives.

Since late April, the United States, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has stayed in touch with both India and Pakistan, urging them to reduce tensions and avoid further conflict.

India launches attack, Pakistan responds strongly

Between May 7 and May 10, 2025, the situation between Pakistan and India grew increasingly tense, with both sides exchanging military actions. On May 7, India launched a missile operation called ‘Operation Sindoor,’ targeting what it claimed were militant groups in areas of Pakistani-administered Kashmir and Punjab. Pakistan, however, accused India of hitting civilian areas, resulting in 31 deaths and 46 injuries, while India insisted that the strikes were precise and intended to minimize escalation.

On the following day, Pakistan carried out drone and missile strikes on multiple cities in India, targeting locations like Amritabad. India responded quickly, stating that its S-400 missile defense system had successfully intercepted the strikes. Pakistan, however, rejected this claim, accusing India of mistakenly attacking its own city of Amritsar to provoke anti-Pakistan sentiments. As the conflict intensified, Pakistan’s air force reported shooting down several Indian jets and drones.

On May 9, the Pakistan Army claimed to have destroyed 77 Indian drones since May 6 and showed evidence of downing five Indian fighter jets, including Rafale aircraft. After a brief break, both sides resumed artillery fire along the Line of Control (LoC). Pakistan asked for a neutral, independent investigation into the Pahalgam attack, but India dismissed the request. Tensions remained high, with both nations accusing one another of worsening the conflict.
